'Vertical' school prototype in Kaka'ako moves forward

The proposed public school envisioned for urban Honolulu next to Mother Waldron Park in Kaka'ako, was given the green light by the board of the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development (HHFDC) to negotiate an agreement with the Department of Education for a four-story 'vertical' elementary school as part of a two-tower apartment complex to be developed by a private developer. The complex at 690 Pohukaina Street will provide much needed rentals for both affordable and low-income residents.
